Scott Sallee, Montana Outfitter #984, is authorized to operate under special permit by the Gallatin National Forest and Yellowstone National Park.  Black Mountain Outfitters, Inc. is located just south of Livingston, Montana in beautiful Paradise Valley.  Our nearest airport is the Gallatin Field in Bozeman, Montana.

Our backcountry early bugle season wilderness horseback camp is in Hunting District 316. Our archery and general season ranch hunt is in Hunting Districts 315 and 393.

We hunt two hunters per guide; a one on one hunt doubles the price of the hunt.  Non-hunters
riding along on the hunt are full price.  We take 6-8 hunters per hunt.

Outfitter sponsored nonresident hunting licenses are guaranteed if properly applied for by March 15.  Price is market driven and set by the FWP Commission.  Big Game Combination elk/deer licenses are $1500.  Elk only licenses are $1400, and Deer licenses are $1100.   Once we receive your half deposit to hold your hunt, we will mail you all license information when it becomes available in mid January.  The balance of your hunt is due by August 1.  If for some reason you need to cancel, we will apply your nonrefundable deposit to any future available hunt only if we are able to rebook your spot.

Your hunt price does not include your license, transportation to and from the airport to the trailhead or lodge, motels, meat processing, taxidermy, or gratuities.  Game retrieval, packing, and field caping are included in the price.  There are no hidden trophy fees.

Bring a gun you are familiar with and practice at different angles, distances, and rests.  Your shooting ability and your rifle are the two things you can absolutely control on your trip to make it more successful.  Get in shape and shoot that rifle every chance you get.

Meals are homestyle and hearty - you will not go hungry in our camp!

ARCHERY ELK AND DEER

We have a prime hunting lease on an extremely productive family ranch with plenty of grass, water, and privacy.  You must have a previous bow license or bow hunter education card to pick up your bow stamp to add to your hunting license at any Montana sporting goods store.  We stay in a modern log lodge.  This healthy native herd provides lots of bugling and extreme excitement for the bowhunter.  This is the archery hunt of a lifetime!

Archery Season 2009 Hunt Dates:
Sept. 5-9, Sept. 10-14, Sept. 22-26

EARLY BUGLE RIFLE SEASON WILDERNESS ELK

Hunt the famous elk herd north of Yellowstone National Park.  This is an all horseback hunt in wild country, and is an unforgettable adventure for any hunter.  We hunt out of the same comfortable camp we use for summer trips, with large wall tents, comfortable cots, 4” foam pads, astroturf, and even a gravity flow hot water shower.  This is a morning hunt: we allow the bulls to filter back into the meadows in the evenings.  Any elk is legal, including cows and spikes, but we primarily kill mature five and six point bulls.  If you want to hear elk screaming in the rut, come to the 980,000 acre Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and ride up the mountain with Black Mountain Outfitters.

Our early bugle rifle season dates are the same each year:

Hunt One - September 14-21 Hunt Two - September 21-28

Hunt Three - September 28-October 5 Hunt Four - October 5-12

GENERAL SEASON ELK, MULE DEER, WHITETAIL, AND ANTELOPE

We lease nearly 50,000 acres of excellent grass country with scattered timber and plenty of water.  We stay in a modern log lodge that even sports a large TV room and laundry room.  Travel by pickup and stalk by foot through this incredible wildlife habitat.  We take elk/deer combo hunts the first five hunts and deer only the last Thanksgiving hunt, when the deer rut is at its peak.  The first three general season rifle hunts are during antelope season and can be upgraded to include an antelope hunt.  This is a terrific hunt with lots of action.  Bring your entire family or your best friend and share the joy of private ranch hunting in a beautiful area of Montana.

Our general season hunts are as follows for 2009:

Hunt One - October 25-29   Hunt Two - October 31-November 4 Hunt Three - November 6-10

Hunt Four November 12-16   Hunt Five - November 18-22   Hunt Six - November 24-28

All hunts will be one day earlier in 2010.

Black Mountain Outfitters also offers the following hunts throughout the year:

MOUNTAIN GOAT

Hunt the shaggy white ghost of the wilderness peaks. We take 8 day mountain goat hunts from our wilderness elk camp in October, or combine it with your early rifle season elk hunt. The lofty king of the mountain offers an unrivaled hunt from our comfortable horseback camp. Apply for district 329-00 for one of the thirty-two either-sex licenses by May 1 for a chance to touch a bit of heaven.

MOUNTAIN LION HUNTS
Listen to our home-raised Redbone hounds work a cold trail as their bone-chilling bawl echoes down the canyons. December and January find us following the footprints of the majestic Montana cougar through a winter wonderland laced with migrating elk and native deer and mountain sheep.

MOOSE
Apply for district 317-20 for Montana moose, the monarch of the meadows.

BLACK BEAR
We hunt spring season fair chase spot and stalk on private ranches for the gorgeous color-phased black bear, ranging from shiny black fading to brown or cinnamon shading to blonde.

BISON
We can arrange bison harvest on private ground during the fall and winter. A beautiful warm robe, huge skull, and literally hundreds of pounds of delicious low cholesterol meat make this an easy choice!

A nonrefundable half deposit holds your dates on any trip. If you need to cancel, and notify us in time to rebook your spot, we will apply your deposit to any future trip we offer.
